TWO high-powered firearms, four rifle grenades, and other war materials were seized by operating troops of the Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion following an encounter with remnants of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) on Monday, December 9, 2024, in Barangay Tacayan, Tapaz, Capiz.
The troops were responding to reports about the presence of the armed remnants of the CTG in the area when they encountered more or less 14 combined elements of the dismantled Central Front and Regional Sentro De Grabidad of the Komiteng-Rehiyon Panay (KR-P).
The firefight ensued for about 40 minutes, after which the enemy fled towards the north and southwest directions. No casualties were reported on the government side.
Captured from the encounter site were various war materials, including an M653 Assault Rifle, an M16 Assault Rifle, four rifle grenades, three magazines for M16 with live ammunition, and three backpacks.
The leadership of the 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division commended the operating troops of the 12IB for the successful combat operations, resulting in the seizure of two high-powered firearms, explosives, and other CTG war items.
“As we move closer to our goal of establishing a Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) environment in Panay Island, we are intensifying our efforts to eliminate the remnants of the CTG. We aim to cripple both their manpower and armed capabilities. We will continue our anti-insurgency drive until we achieve complete victory against them, ensuring that this terrorist group has no space to breathe and resurge,” said Major General Marion R. Sison, Commander, 3ID.
The 3ID Commander called on the people of Panay to continue supporting and extending helping hands to their government forces, emphasizing that the journey towards a SIPS state is everyone’s responsibility.
“Let’s maintain this momentum, with everyone working together to achieve this shared vision. With your continued support, we are optimistic that we can finally end this decades-long insurgency. Together, we can move forward towards a peaceful and progressive Panay Island,” he concluded.
