[UPDATED] – EIGHTEEN Senate employees have tested positive to COVID-19 after 500 staff including senators underwent a rapid test before the start of the first session of the Senate.
In a Twitter post by Senate President Tito Sotto III, he said most of the positives came from the Office of the Sgt at Arms.
Two of those infected by the coronavirus were employees of the senators, while a waiter and pager at the plenary session were among those who are positive from the rapid test.
They were immediately taken to the hospital for a nose and throat swab test to confirm they were positive from COVID-19.
The first day of the session was attended by 15 senators including Senate President Tito Sotto III, President Tempore Ralph Recto, Senate Majority Floor Leader Migz Zubiri, Senator Lito Lapid, Senator Richard Gordon, Senator Bong Revilla, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Senator Win Gatchalian, Senator Christopher Bong Go, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa, Senator Joey Villanueva, Senator Nancy Binay, and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.
Meanwhile, Senator Francis Pangilinan, Senator Cynthia Villar, and Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon participated in the session via teleconference.
