SEVENTEEN Former Rebels (FRs), known as Peace Advocates, successfully earned their Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Bread and Pastry Production and Carpentry NC II certificates. This achievement was celebrated during the Graduation Ceremony of the Community-Based and Center-Based Training, along with the turnover of bakery equipment to Peace Advocates. The event, themed “Empowering Communities through Skills Development,” held at the Guihulngan Satellite Skills Development Center, Barangay Poblacion, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, on January 24, 2025.
The training was facilitated by the Guihulngan City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (GCTF-ELCAC), led by Chairperson Hon. Filomeno L. Reyes, in collaboration with TESDA and the 62nd Infantry “Unifier” Battalion. All participants acquired valuable new skills through the training program. Additionally, the FRs, now Peace Advocates, received bakery equipment to help them establish a sustainable source of income and enhance their livelihood opportunities.
In his message, GCTF-ELCAC Chairperson Hon. Reyes expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Brigadier General Ted B. Dumosmog, PA, Brigade Commander of the 303rd Infantry (Brown Eagle) Brigade, and Lieutenant Colonel Evelio C. Ilanga III, Battalion Commander of the 62IB. Hon. Reyes likewise express his gratitude to TESDA for providing free skills training to FRs and to the community.
Brigadier General Dumosmog also commended the partner agencies for their support. “This initiative equips the participants with practical skills they can use to generate income and invest in their future,” he said.
The 62IB reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government initiatives that help Former Rebels reintegrate into society. The unit remains dedicated to assisting LGUs, NGOs, and other stakeholders in promoting peace and development across Central Negros.
