KINUNDENA ng Philippine Army ang ginawang pag-ambush ng mga armadong grupo sa tropa ng militar sa lalawigan ng Basilan na ikinasawi ng 2 sundalo at ikinasugat ng 12 iba pa.
Nangyari ang karumaldumal na pananambang hapon ng Miyerkules January 22 sa Barangay Lower Cabengbeng sa bayan ng Sumisip sa probinsya ng Basilan.
Sa pahayag ni LtGen. Roy Galido Commanding General ng Philippine Army siniguro nito na ibibigay ang suporta sa lahat ng mga nasugatan kasabay ang pagpapaabot ng pakikiramay sa mga naulilalng pamilya ng mga nasawing sundalo.
“We deeply condole with the families of those who died and we enjoin the nation to honor their ultimate sacrifice while securing the people of Basilan. Likewise, the Philippine Army assures the provision of prompt and full support to the wounded for their immediate recovery,” ayon kay LtGen. Roy Galido.
Ayon sa 101st infantry brigade, ginawa ang pananambang habang nasa lehitimong security operation ang tropa ng pamahalaan bilang suporta sa United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Pagdating ng tropa sa nasabing lugar ay dito na sila pinaputukan ng mga armadong kalalakihan na tinukoy ng mga otoridad na pinangunahan ni Najal Buena at Oman Hajal Jalis.
Base sa pahayag ng 101st IB ang nabanggit na mga indibidwal ay kilala notorious sa pagkakasangkot sa violent conflicts o rido sa kanilang lugar dagdag pa dito na ang nasabing pag-atake ay suportado rin umano ng ilang myembro ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
“While securing Brgy. Lower Cabengbeng, troops encountered gunfire from lawless elements led by Najal Buena and Oman Hajal Jalis, individuals notorious for involvement in violent conflicts (rido) in the area. Tragically, the attack was supported by some members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), raising significant concerns about their role in fostering peace and stability,” 101st Infantry Brigade said.
Ang naturang krimen ay kinunan pa ng video at nagpa-picture pa sa mismong crime scene ang mga responsable ng ambush at sinunog ang isang KM450 military vehicle.
Kaugnay nito, nagtungo naman sa Basilan si Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. upang magsagawa ng command conference.
Nanawagan naman si Basilan Governor Jim Salliman sa mga security forces na resolbahin ang naturang isyu upang hindi na maulit ang nabanggit na insidente.
“As confirmed by the military, the incident was perpetrated by misguided elements of the MILF out to spoil or destroy the peace and tranquility of the province. We call upon the MILF leadership in Basilan and the security forces to find a common ground that would resolve the issue and prevent a repeat of the incident in the future,” ayon kay Gov. Jim Salliman, Basilan.
Sinabi ng gobernador na ito ay isolated case dahil hindi naman aniya ito palaging nangyayari sa kanilang lugar.
Sa huli, nakikipag-ugnayan na ang Philippine Army sa mga lokal na pamahalaan sa Basilan at sa ibang security agencies upang mapanagot ang mga gumawa ng madugong pananambang.
