501st Inf Bde assures security of communities in Abra, Ilocos Sur

THE 501st Infantry Brigade (501 Inf Bde) of the 5th Infantry Division assured the safety of residents after a series of firefights against Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) remnants at the boundary of Pilar, Abra and Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur on April 2, 2024.

Elements of the 50th Infantry Battalion (50 Inf Bn) conducted security operations following a tip from residents about the presence of armed men in the area when they were engaged in a fierce firefight by the CTG’s North Abra Guerrilla Front (KLG North Abra), Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC). The Philippine Army has assured the security of residents as it continues to conduct clearing operations in the area.

The Army leadership lauded the anti-insurgency efforts of 50IB troops whose decisive military operations thwarted the plans of CTG remnants to terrorize the local populace of Abra and Ilocos Sur. Meanwhile, the 5ID leadership called on CTG remnants to lay down their arms and avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program to help them start anew with their loved ones.
