6.8-magnitude earthquake hits Philippines’ Mindanao region

ACCORDING to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the strong earthquake occurred at around 4:14 in the afternoon.

PHIVOLCS identified the epicenter of the earthquake as 30 kilometers southwest of Sarangani, Davao Occidental, with a depth of 10 kilometers.

There is currently no tsunami warning in effect, and no immediately reported casualties or injuries.

PHIVOLCS advised the public to be on alert for aftershocks and damage.

Mindanao, home to around 26 million people, is the second largest island here in the Philippines.
