62IB neutralizes NPA member in a firefight in La Libertad, Negros Oriental

TROOPS of the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion engaged in a three-minute firefight against remnants of Central Negros 1 (CN1) – Dismantled (D), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (KR-NCBS) at Crossing Lansang, Barangay Talaon, La Libertad, Negros Oriental, on February 10, 2025, at 7:18 PM while conducting pursuit operations against the Communist NPA Terrorists (CNTs) responsible for the recent burning of heavy equipment in Sitio Manghuya, Barangay Aya, La Libertad.

The encounter involved around four CNTs, who fired upon government troops, prompting a brief exchange of gunfire. The enemy withdrew toward the south, leaving behind one (1) dead CNT, identified as Rolito Tanillo alias “Roy/Gamatoy,” a member of the Sangay Yunit Pampropaganda (SYP) Squad, CN1 (D), KR-NCBS, and a resident of Barangay Talaon, La Libertad. Government forces recovered one (1) M14 rifle with a defaced serial number at the encounter site. No casualties were reported on the government side.

Following the encounter, troops continued pursuit operations to track the withdrawing CNTs, while additional forces were deployed to reinforce the operation. The unit also coordinated with the La Libertad Municipal Police Station (MPS) and MDRRMO La Libertad regarding the encounter and the retrieval of the cadaver. Meanwhile, 62IB continues to monitor the movements of the fleeing CNTs.

This successful operation highlights the commitment of the 62IB to dismantling the remaining communist terrorist elements operating in Negros Island. Under the leadership of BGen Ted B. Dumosmog, Commander, 303rd Infantry (Brown Eagle) Brigade, the Philippine Army remains steadfast in its mission to secure communities, prevent further atrocities, and uphold lasting peace and development in the region.
