CARLO Paalam and Paul Bascon were lucky in their semifinal bouts on Thursday, they are among the 9 boxers from the Philippines who will advance to the finals in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games for the boxing game.

Meanwhile, Markus Tongko failed to advance to the gold medal match of Men’s 92kg after losing to Manh Cuong Nguyen of Vietnam.

First to enter the finals were Nesthy Petecio, Rogen Ladon, Ian Clark Bautista, Norlan Petecio, and John Marvin after their semis match on Wednesday.

The other 2 are Tokyo Olympian Irish Magno and Riza Pasuit, who won their semis matches on Tuesday in the women’s flyweight and lightweight categories.

Philippines had a good start in fencing events

Also, the Philippine national fencing team’s record in the Cambodia 2023 SEA Games is a good start.

On Thursday, Noelito Jose immediately won Silver in the Men’s Individual Epee after the finals match against Singapore.

From the semis of the Women’s saber individual against Singapore, Jylyn Nicanor won the bronze.

Catantan suffers knee injury; forced to withdraw from finals despite 15-6 semis win

Meanwhile, Samantha Catantan won against Singapore’s Kemei Chung in a semis match on Friday qualifying her to proceed to the finals. However, despite a 15-6 win, she is forced to withdraw after suffering a knee injury and later, had to be stretchered off the venue.

Leyte Congressman Richard Gomez gave his remarks on what happened to Catantan and shared that the Philippine government will take care of the athlete’s hospitalization.
