SCAMMERS and fraudsters are on the move again in Abu Dhabi prompting Emirati officials to alert residents and enhance their security efforts to protect the city from cyber threats.
The Abu Dhabi Police warned the public to beware of fraudulent calls and text messages sending links to fraudulent websites following a spate of reports linked to online fraud.
The said links imitate those websites coming from government agencies and offer fake services or promise tempting rewards and benefits to responders.
According to Emirati officials, this method known as phishing is being used by cybercriminals to gain financial and personal information from the public, which is then used to steal funds from their bank accounts.
The police warned scammers can reuse their data to steal more money.
A report published by cybersecurity firm Group-IB in January revealed that organizations in Saudi Arabia and the UAE were the most targeted by cyberattacks among Gulf countries between mid-2021 and mid-2022.
In the event of fraud, the public is advised to go to the nearest police station and quickly report any calls received from unknown persons especially suspicious calls asking for their personal information.
