A remnant of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) was killed in another encounter in Barangay Tacayan, Tapaz, Capiz on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The troops were conducting pursuit operations following an encounter against fleeing CTG remnants on Monday, December 9, when they encountered approximately three members of the dismantled Central Front and Regional Sentro De Grabidad (RSDG), Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay in the said barangay.
The firefight that ensued for about 10 minutes resulted in the death of Jerryl Giganto Katipunan, alias Osong/Jason, a member of the RSDG Madia-as Platoon.
His cadaver, along with other CTG paraphernalia, was recovered by the operating troops from the encounter site. No casualties were reported on the government side.
It can be recalled that two high-powered firearms and four explosives were also seized by the 12IB in an encounter with the same groups on Monday.
The leadership of the Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division commended the operating troops of the 12IB for their successful combat operations in Tapaz, resulting in the neutralization of a CTG remnant and seizure of high-powered firearms and other war materials.
“We are resolute in our drive to end the decades-long insurgency in Panay. The recent series of encounters, recoveries of CTG arms caches, and surrenders of remaining NPAs are part of our campaign to decisively defeat this terrorist organization. We aim to eliminate their manpower, armed capability, and support systems. We will not rest until we achieve our common goal of establishing a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) in Panay Island,” said Major General Marion R. Sison, Commander, 3ID.
MGen. Sison once again urged the remaining NPAs to lay down their arms, warning them of the same fate that befell alias Jason and their other comrades in recent and past encounters.
“Choose the path of peace while you still have time. Return to the fold of the law, avail yourselves of the Enhanced-Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) and Amnesty Program, and find solace and harmony in the refuge of our government, your families, and your communities,” he added.
