Appreciation Program and Convergence Gathering for the Cebu Call to Action on Gastronomy Tourism

IN recognition of the successful hosting of the inaugural UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific and the 36th UN Tourism Joint Commission Meeting for East Asia and the Pacific and the Commission for South Asia in June, the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Monday (Sept 23) gathered all Cebu-based partners and stakeholders who helped the Department for an appreciation program and to reiterate the Cebu Call to Action initiative on Gastronomy Tourism of the DOT.

“Tonight we gather to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you and to recognize the incredible spirit of Cebu and its people, who have once again shown the world what makes this island a jewel in the crown of the Philippines,” Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco said during the appreciation program and convergence gathering for the Cebu Call to Action on Gastronomy Tourism.

“Salamat, Cebu, for coming together in such an excellent, passionate and creative manner, as Cebuanos are known to do, to ensure the monumental success of the United Nations tourism events held here in June. In times when it is tested, or in moments when it is celebrated, Cebu has always stood in solidarity to uphold the greater good. In this case, Cebu’s unity shone through, reflecting the best of the Philippines to the world and making known the grace and the excellence of the Philippines,” the Tourism chief added.

According to Secretary Frasco, a significant result of the regional gastronomy tourism forum was the execution of the Cebu Call to Action gastronomy tourism which was endorsed by delegates from 43 participating countries across the globe.

“Cebu is etched in history as having propelled this movement that elevates the Philippines’ role in fortifying gastronomy tourism as a driver for sustainable tourism development in the Asia Pacific region and the world,” she said.
