THE 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa already concluded on August 24, and the bloc invited Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates to join their ranks.
The six countries were invited to join BRICS in 2024 as said by South African Cyril Ramaphosa on the final day of the summit.
Meanwhile, participating online from Buenos Aires, Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez celebrated the bloc’s invite and assured that being part of BRICS would ‘strengthen’ the country, and it would ‘not exclude other instances of integration’, such as the country’s cooperation with the United Nations.
“We want to be part of BRICS because the current difficult global context gives the bloc singular relevance, and turns it into an important geopolitical and financial reference, although not the only one for this developing world,” Pres. Alberto Fernandez, Argentina said.
Pres. Fernandez requested full membership in BRICS in June 2022 and enjoyed the support of BRICS-member Brazil and its President and Fellow Left-Winger, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
