SINGAPOREAN ministers believe that Australia will play a bigger role in regional security through the signing of the AUKUS Defense Pact.
The Singaporean ministers strongly supported the trilateral deal and assured that the nuclear-powered submarines are welcome to enter its shores.
This came after ministers from both countries met in Canberra for the 13th meeting of the Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee.
Both sides acknowledged their strong partnership anchored by strategic trust and deep cooperation.
The ministers also welcomed the strong trade and investment partnership between the two countries.
Singapore’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Vivian Balakrishnan, said he trusts that Australia will fulfill its obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
Balakrishnan added that Southeast Asia must not become ‘an arena for proxy wars’.
In turn, the Albanese government assured Singapore that it would remain a reliable supplier of gas.
