The removal of remaining trade tariffs on several Australian products will likely dominate the talks during Wang Yi’s visit in Canberra.
The Chinese diplomat’s visit to the region coincides with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and New Zealand as well as China and Australia.
The diplomatic tour marks the first time a Chinese foreign minister visited Australia and New Zealand in the past seven years.
To note, China’s Ministry of Commerce recently released an interim draft proposing to lift tariffs on Australian wine taken as a sign of improving ties fraught with years of trade war.
