Bicol region establishes its second provincial quarantine area

Camarines Sur has established the second provincial quarantine center in the Bicol region at the   to temporarily shelter (Persons Under Investigation) PUIs and Persons Under Monitoring (PUMs) of COVID-19.

Last week, Sorsogon Governor Francis Joseph “Chiz” Escudero and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III established the first quarantine center at the Sorsogon State College.

The CBSUA Quarantine Center will be operated by the local government of Pasacao, Camarines Sur.

With the supervision of Chairman De Vera, a teleconference meeting was held last April 01, 2020 to finalize the details needed for the smooth implementation of this joint-initiative.

The teleconferencing meeting was participated by Chairman De Vera, CBSU Chairman of the Board Commissioner Aldrin A. Darilag, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, Pasacao Acting Mayor Marilyn H. Sotto, CBSUA President Alberto N. Naperi and CHED Regional Director Freddie T. Bernal under the technical guidance of the CHED Public Health Experts Group led by Dean Jun Belizario.

“As Chair-Designate of the CBSUA Board of Regents, I am thankful that our State Universities and Colleges are not sitting idly by and are doing their utmost best to contribute in the effort to contain the spread of the virus. It is my ardent hope that more tertiary education institutions emulate CBSUA in their kindness and selfless service to the nation and its people,” Darilag said.

Pasacao Acting Mayor Marilyn Sotto also conveyed her appreciation to the Commission for not closing its doors to communities like theirs who are in need of urgent aid at a time of crisis.

CBSUA President Naperi willingly extends its support to the provincial government. “Living its core principle of CARE, CBSUA opens its facilities as Community Isolation Units (CIUs) for LGU Pasacao to fight COVID-19 and answer the call of our National Government to heal as one through Bayanihan Spirit,” he said.

“With the bayanihan spirit in Metro Manila now successfully building quarantine centers at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, World Trade Center, and other areas, the Commission hopes that more SUCs will collaborate with the LGUs to create facilities all over the country to be used as quarantine centers,” De Vera said.
