SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go firmly rejected allegations linking him to illegal drug operations, reiterating his strong stance against illegal drugs during a phone patch interview on DZRH’s Balansyado with Henry Uri on Wednesday, November 27.
The accusations, which resurfaced during a House Quad-Committee hearing, stemmed from a controversial 2017 report presented by former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official Eduardo Acierto. The report included a matrix allegedly connecting Go to drug personalities. However, Go dismissed the claims as politically motivated and baseless.
“Walang katotohanan na papayag kami sa iligal na droga. Galit nga kami sa iligal na droga, galit kami sa mga drug lords,” he stated. Go emphasized that his actions have always been guided by integrity and legality, echoing the advice of former President Rodrigo Duterte: “Just do what is right, what is legal.”
The senator criticized the use of unsubstantiated links to implicate him, such as photos with alleged drug figures.
“Alam mo uso po ang picture ngayon. Kahit sino po, kahit saan n’yo ako makasalubong, magkasalubong tayo diyan sa event maraming nagpapa-picture sa akin,” Go explained, adding that as a public official, he accommodates requests for photos without discrimination.
During the House hearing, lawmakers including Representatives Bienvenido Abante and Ace Barbers cautioned PDEA against presenting unsubstantiated allegations. Abante stressed the importance of avoiding harm to innocent individuals, while Barbers warned against the reputational damage caused by baseless claims.
“Hindi na po ako nagtataka na paulit-ulit ito dahil alam n’yo eleksyon ngayon, ‘di ba? Gusto nilang kulayan kami ng itim para sila ang pumuti,” Go said, dismissing the accusations as part of election-season politicking.
Despite the controversy, Go remains committed to his duties as a public servant. In the same interview, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Filipino people, vowing to continue his work undeterred by political mudslinging or criticism.
“Ako po’y isang probinsyano lamang na binigyan n’yo po ng pagkakataon na makapagserbisyo sa ating mga kababayan,” Go said. Addressing detractors, he added,
“Sa mga bumabatikos, iyan naman po ang trabaho nila na sirain ka. At ako naman po’y walang makakapagpigil sa akin sa pagseserbisyo sa kapwa nating Pilipino.”
In a heartfelt message to both supporters and critics, he concluded, “
“Mahal n’yo man ako o hindi, patuloy po akong magseserbisyo at patuloy kong mamahalin ang aking kapwa Pilipino.”
