Bong Go provides immediate support to fire victims in Quezon City

SENATOR Christopher ‘’Bong’’ Go provides immediate support to fire victims in Quezon City.

“Ang gamit ay nabibili, ang pera ay kikitain, subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nakakabili ng buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Importante ay buhay tayo kaya pangalagaan natin ang buhay na ibinigay sa atin ng Panginoon,” Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, in a video call, told victims of recent fire incidents in Quezon City as his Malasakit Team provided them immediate aid on Friday, February 7.

Go likewise mentioned Republic Act No. 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, which he primarily authored and co-sponsored. The law encompasses acquiring new fire equipment, recruiting additional firefighters, and providing specialized training, among other enhancements.

Senator Go also highlighted the recently enacted RA 12076, also known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act. Signed on December 6, the law mandates the establishment of permanent, safe, and well-equipped evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities across the Philippines. As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law, Go emphasized its role in ensuring the safety and dignity of disaster-affected communities while expediting recovery efforts.

The relief effort was held at the Barangay Old Balara Hall, where 93 families received grocery packs, meals, vitamins, snacks, and shirts. There were also select recipients of a mobile phone and shoes.

Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, also encouraged those with health issues to seek the services of Malasakit Centers in Quezon City, located at the Lung Center of the Philippines, Novaliches District Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, East Avenue Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center, National Children’s Hospital, Philippine National Police General Hospital, and Quirino Memorial Medical Center.

These centers are among the 166 Malasakit Centers nationwide that aim to assist indigent patients with medical expenses.

Go is the principal author and sponsor of RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. The Department of Health reported that the Malasakit Centers program has aided more than 15 million Filipinos.

“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” said Go, who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
