SENATOR Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team visited Tanza, Cavite, on Tuesday, March 12, to assist fire-hit households.
“Sa mga nasunugan, huwag ho kayong mag-alala. Sabi ko nga sa inyo noon, ang gamit ay nabibili. Ang pera ay kikitain, subalit ‘yung perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever,” said Go in a video message.
To help the victims amidst the adverse situation, the Malasakit Team, with Mayor Yuri Pacumio, gave out grocery packs, water containers, snacks, clothing, balls, vitamins, and facemasks to six fire-hit families held at Tanza, Cavite Municipal Hall. The said unfortunate incident has brought to a total of four casualties.
In connection to this, Go reminded the residents to take care of themselves saying, “Pangalagaan at ingatan po natin ang buhay at kalusugan ng bawat isa. Ang importante po magtulungan tayo, sino pa ba ang magtutulungan kung ‘di tayong mga kapwa Pilipino. Kaya po nandirito kami ngayon para tulungan kayong lahat mga kababayan ko,” he said.
Go also emphasizes the importance of enhancing fire prevention awareness in the community to prevent such accidents, especially this month as March is the Fire Prevention Month.
“I also encourage your local government na mas paigtingin pa ang fire prevention awareness para maiwasan ang mga ganitong pangyayari,” the senator said as he recognized that most Filipinos lack knowledge on fire safety.
Furthermore, the Senator said the Bureau of Fire Protection has a 10-year modernization program under the BFP Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored and co-sponsored. The law aims to enhance the BFP’s capabilities through advanced equipment and additional personnel. It includes fire safety education and community engagement.
Meanwhile, the Senator, chair of the Senate Committee on Health, urged those with health issues to seek assistance from the Malasakit Center at the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Imus City and Southern Tagalog Regional Hospital in Bacoor City.
Institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which Go principally authored and sponsored, these Malasakit Centers simplify access to government services for indigent patients, covering medical costs.
Go’s efforts have established 161 Malasakit Centers nationwide, assisting over ten million Filipinos, as the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
Additionally, Go has likewise supported various road improvements in the cities of Cavite, Dasmariñas, General Trias, Imus, and Tagaytay; rehabilitation and improvement of the municipal fire station in Noveleta; rehabilitation of covered courts in various barangays in General Trias City; acquisition of ambulance units for the local government of Indang and Trece Martires City; and improvement of a sports facility in Cavite State University in Indang.
