SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go reminded the public to take necessary precautions against diseases that are prevalent during the rainy season, especially dengue and leptospirosis, which pose serious health risks due to flooding as Go’s Malasakit Team aided victims of Tropical Storm Enteng in Bulan, Sorsogon on Friday, September 6.
In a previous interview, Go emphasized the importance of following government guidelines to prevent the spread of these illnesses.
“Alam niyo, tag-ulan ngayon. Prone tayo sa sakit—tulad ng dengue, at prone din tayo sa leptospirosis dahil sa baha. Sumunod tayo sa paalala ng gobyerno,” he said.
Go also highlighted the Department of Health’s (DOH) 4S strategy in combating dengue. The senator explained,
“Una, dengue. Meron pong 4S strategy ang DOH: Search and destroy mosquito breeding places. Pangalawa, secure self-protection from mosquito bites. Pangatlo, seek early consultation. At pang-apat, say yes to fogging.”
“Iwas po tayo na sumabak sa mga baha dahil marumi po ‘yan at delikado. Uso po ang sakit na leptospirosis kapag may baha dahil di natin kontrolado ang dumi na nandiyan sa mga baha,” he added.
He further encouraged the public to seek medical help if they experience symptoms of dengue or leptospirosis, noting the availability of health services in local health centers and hospitals.
The activity took place at the Barangay San Rafael where Go’s Malasakit Team, in coordination with Vice Mayor Chezka Bulan, distributed 200 food packs to the victims composed of senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
As the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go noted that he was the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, also known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.
With 166 operational centers nationwide, including the one at Dr. Fernando B. Duran Sr. Memorial Hospital in Sorsogon City, the Department of Health (DOH) reported that it has already assisted nearly 12 million impoverished patients with hospital expenses.
“Ilapit natin ang serbisyong medikal sa ating mga kababayan. Salamat sa ating mga doktor, sa ating mga municipal health officers, sa health workers natin na nagsakripisyo noong panahon ng pandemya. Magtulungan lang ho tayo,” Go said.
He closed his message with a reminder that the health and well-being of every Filipino is a priority.
“So, paalala ko, importante po sa akin ang kalusugan ng bawat Pilipino dahil katumbas po ito ng buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” underscored Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
