Bus conductors will be removed under the new normal

BUS conductors will be temporarily removed under the ‘new normal’ due to the effect of COVID-19 in the country.

According to the Department of Transportation’s guidelines, it is stated that buses will use the automated fare system with only 50% capacity the number of passengers.

As such, the Association of Transportation managing director Juliet de Jesus said the lack of conductors and significant losses among them only be temporary if the buses were only half boarded.

De Jesus stressed that there should be fuel subsidy and other non-monetary considerations once their operations begin.

He also asked the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to give them 24 months to pay off their debts due to DOTr’s modernization program.

The proposed guidelines for public transport return also include social distancing, wearing a face mask, and disinfecting buses and terminals.
