CAMBODIAN Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the 8th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Wang told his Cambodian counterpart that China is ready to work with the Southeast Asian country and other nations to stop online gambling and transnational crimes, total eradication of criminal gangs as well as protect social stability in regional countries.
Both countries took the lead in signing the new version of the action plan for building a community with a shared future.
The Cambodian Foreign Minister said the two sides should further strengthen cooperation to fight smear campaigns against China’s Belt and Road Initiative by forces outside the region.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet also held talks with He Weidong, visiting Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, at the peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday.
Hun Manet assured the visiting diplomat of Cambodia’s strong support towards the One-China Policy and hailed the ironclad friendship between Cambodia and China.
Both countries established diplomatic ties 65 years ago.
The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation includes China and the five Mekong countries: Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
The Mekong River boasts the world’s largest inland fishery and accounts for up to 25% of the global freshwater catch.
