THE South Korean foreign ministry said the trilateral summit between their country, China, and Japan, will likely signal a restart of diplomacy among East Asian countries.
High-ranking diplomats from South Korea, China, and Japan reached an agreement to work toward holding the said trilateral summit at the earliest convenient time.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Wang Wenbin said his country is maintaining contact with South Korea and Japan regarding holding high-level meetings of trilateral cooperation.
Amid tensions in the region, China is maintaining contact with both South Korea and Japan regarding trilateral cooperation.
Wang made the remarks in a recent press briefing, saying that China values cooperation with Japan and South Korea.
“China, Japan and the ROK are close neighbors and important cooperation partners. Enhancing the trilateral cooperation serves the common interest of the three countries. China values the cooperation among the three countries and actively supports the ROK’s chairmanship of the China-Japan-ROK cooperation. The three countries are maintaining contact on holding high-level meetings of trilateral cooperation,” according to Wang Wenbin, Spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The three countries held their leaders’ meeting in Chengdu City, China, in 2019.
