CHINA said respects the decision of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to close its consulate general in Hong Kong.
It can be remembered that North Korea decided to close multiple embassies across the world amid reports of financial difficulties.
China respects the decision of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea after it closed its consulate general in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
This was stated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin regarding the closure of the DPRK’s consulate general in Hong Kong, saying that China respects and understands the decisions made.
North Korean state media, KCNA, reported the successive closure of its embassies in various countries, and as of now, a dozen of its embassies have been reported closed, including its consulate general in Hong Kong.
According to Wang, each country has the right to establish or withdraw its consulates in other countries.
“Each country has the right to establish or withdraw its consulates abroad based on its realities and needs. China respects DPRK’s decision of closing its consulate general in Hong Kong,” according to Wang Wenbin, spokesman, Chinese Foreign Ministry.
KCNA also reported that the ambassadors of North Korea bid farewell to the leaders of Uganda and Angola last week in conjunction with the closure of its embassies.
Meanwhile, the South Korean Unification Ministry pointed to the faltering economy of North Korea as the reason for the closure of its missions abroad.
