China strengthening ties with Europe in series of visits by officials

CHINESE Foreign Minister Qin Gang has ended his visit to 3 European countries and now, another official will be heading to Europe, this time to Ukraine and Russia for a ‘peace’ tour.

Between the 8th and the 12th of May, China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang traveled to 3 European countries at the invitation of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, and Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.

All 3 countries which Qin visited last week had pledged to further strengthen ties with China.

Germany is ready to work with China for positive outcomes of the consultation with a focus on joint efforts, sustainability, and action, especially in advancing cooperation in climate change, energy transformation, biodiversity, youth exchanges, and other fields.

And while in Germany, Qin Gang also met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

With France, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation in sports, education, language, scientific and technological innovation, and tourism as priorities.

Meanwhile, China and Norway would strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, ocean, social welfare, and green transformation, expand cooperation both in depth and breadth, and push bilateral relations to a new level, qin said.

While in Norway, the Chinese foreign minister did not miss the opportunity to meet with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr store in Oslo.

China appreciated the fact that Norway made a firm adherence to the one-china policy.

It can be noted that China’s foreign minister proposes 3 principles for China-Europe ties, calling for:

–    adherence to an inclusive worldview

–    a commitment to a progressive view of history

–    the perspective of mutually-beneficial and win-win cooperation

Qin said that what the international community needs most is peaceful development, fairness and justice, and progress rather than retrogression. The cold war is a tragedy for mankind he added.

Qin also warned that a “new cold war” would only bring greater disaster, severely harm the interests of the Chinese and the European people, as well as the rest of the world, and would significantly undermine multilateralism and global governance.

According to Qin, China, and Europe should jointly oppose a “new cold war”, lead in promoting coordination and positive interaction among major powers, and use their capacities and resources to promote common development and prosperity.

In addition, respecting and accommodating each other’s core interests and major concerns are what the 3 European countries shared with China. China, Germany, France, and Norway also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue.

And just recently, reports say that a top Chinese envoy named Li Hui is heading to Europe where he will be visiting Ukraine first then Russia as part of efforts to promote peace between the 2 countries at war.
