CHINA announced its plan to skip the upcoming G20 event in the Indian-controlled part of the disputed Kashmir.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin in a statement on Friday said that China firmly opposes holding any form of G20 meetings on disputed territory and will not attend such meetings.
The third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting will be held from May 22 to 24 in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and the disputed region of Kashmir.
The G20 New Delhi Summit is being chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi which started on the 1st of December 2022 until the third quarter of 2023.
Beijing and New Delhi have a territorial dispute in the Himalayas. Soldiers from both sides have engaged in several bloody encounters along the de facto border since 2020.
At the same time, the nations of India and China’s ally Pakistan have fiercely contested each other over Kashmir, where both sides fought three major wars and two minor wars.
Besides China, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye will most likely skip registration for the G20 event in India.
Despite several world leaders possibly skipping the event, local officials hope that Kashmir’s breathtaking natural beauty and serene landscapes will attract both domestic and international visitors.
