China’s top diplomat to visit Australia next week

AUSTRALIA is anticipating a special visitor next week.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi accepted an invitation to visit Australia for bilateral talks.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong is set to host his Chinese counterpart for the Seventh Australia-China Foreign and Strategic Dialogue in Canberra scheduled on Wednesday.

Wong is expected to raise the removal of remaining trade tariffs on several Australian products during Wang Yi’s two-day trip to the country.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hailed the significant progress to remove tariffs from several Australian exports in recent months.

The trip will make Wang Yi the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Australia since 2017.

The announcement for Wang Yi’s visit was declared within 24 hours after China’s Ministry of Commerce said it has released an interim draft proposing to lift tariffs on Australian wine.
