A Chinese-built drone identified as a “twin-tailed scorpion” was one of the military aircraft that entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone within the past 48 hours.
Taiwan’s Defense Ministry detected 38 Chinese aircraft, including the twin-tailed scorpion drone, circling the island between Thursday and Friday morning.
Of this number, 19 had crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or had entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone.
This is the highest number of incursions recorded since China ended 3 days of war games earlier this month.
According to the ministry, this is the first time a Chinese military aircraft surrounded the island from one end of the median line to the other.
A median line is an unofficial boundary dividing the Taiwan Strait.
The twin-tailed scorpion drone is one of China’s largest that boasts a flight range of 6,000 kilometers and is capable of high-altitude, long-range missions.
