POSIBLENG zero budget ang matatanggap ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) para sa susunod na taon.
“If they will not give me or the Senate a clear stand on abortion or against abortion then I’ll have to talk to my colleagues then give them a zero budget,” ayon kay Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, Sponsor, Proposed 2024 CHR Budget.
Ito ang babala ni Sen. Jinggoy Estrada matapos malaman na suportado ng CHR ang aborsiyon.
Araw ng Martes ay ipinagpaliban ng Senado ang deliberasyon sa budget ng CHR matapos lumutang na isinusulong ng Komisyon ang decriminalization ng aborsiyon.
Sa isang interview araw ng Martes ay sinabi ni Estrada na siyang magdedepensa sa 2024 budget ng CHR na hindi niya ito masisikmura dahil sa kaniyang paniniwala.
“Personally, I am against abortion. I am a devout Catholic and it is against the teachings of the church. It is penalized under existing laws and if ever the CHR is in favor of it, I will be the first one to oppose or go against them,” dagdag ni Sen. Estrada.
Tiwala naman si Estrada na ang kaniyang pananaw ay gayundin ang sentimiento ng lahat ng mga senador.
Sa pagbanggit sa umiiral na batas laban sa aborsiyon sa Pilipinas, sinabi ni Estrada na dapat magbitiw si CHR Exec. Director Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia kung nais niyang magpatuloy sa pagdikriminal ng aborsiyon.
Binigyang-diin niya na si De Guia ay hindi maaaring gumawa ng anumang pahayag sa kaniyang sarili, lalo na ang mga pahayag na lalabag sa karapatang mabuhay.
“When she said that, she was speaking on behalf of the Commission, she was not uttering it only on her behalf. She was the spokesperson of the CHR during that time of Aquino administration.”
“If she’s still connected with the CHR, she does not have the right to talk about the decriminalization of abortion or spousing abortion because she knows that it is illegal in our country,” dagdag ni Sen. Estrada.
Batay sa Republic Act 3815 ng Revised Penal Code ay nakasaad na ang sinumang tao na sadyang magdudulot ng aborsiyon ay dapat makulong.
