THE Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas  (CGDEV) confirmed the recovery of the remains of Mr. Andres Bulanon, a 63-year-old Chief Engineer of the submerged cargo vessel MV Jerlyn Khatness on 03 January 2025.

The body was discovered at approximately 1:50 PM along the shoreline of Barangay Magcaraguit, Dimasalang, Masbate. Mr. Bulanon, a resident of Tubigon, Bohol had been reported missing after the incident involving the vessel.

The discovery was reported by Barangay Kagawad Nilo Amor, who immediately informed the Dimasalang Municipal Police Station (MPS) via cell phone. Mr. Bulanon’s body was found tied to a wooden chair, wearing grey shorts and a gold necklace, with a distinctive tattoo on his right shoulder marked “seaman,” featuring an anchor and propeller logo.

Due to the state of decomposition and odor, the cadaver was immediately transported to Romulo Adigue Funeral Services under the recommendation of the Dimasalang Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for sanitary measures.

Coast Guard Station (CGS) Northern Samar has coordinated with CGS Masbate and CGSS Cataingan to notify the shipping company and facilitate communication with the family of the deceased.
