NICOLAS Petro, the son of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, has now been formally charged with money laundering and illicit enrichment after being arrested over the weekend.
Charges were made Tuesday following a hearing where prosecutors said Nicolas Petro took thousands of dollars from drug traffickers and used it to buy luxurious homes and expensive cars.
“Your honor, I do not accept the charges,” according to Nicolas Petro, Son of Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
However, the Colombian presidential son pleaded not guilty to the said charges.
Due to this, the 36-year-old lost the chance to secure a 50% reduction of any sentence if convicted by denying the charges.
A final decision from the judge on whether or not Nicolas will be held in jail is to be made Thursday.
According to lawyers, he could face 12-20 years in jail if found guilty.

Meanwhile, on the Hunter Biden issue, Devon Archer, a former business partner of the presidential son said during a 4-hour closed-door testimony on Capitol Hill Monday, that Hunter put his father on speakerphone during business meetings about 20 times but not to talk business.
This reportedly happened for over a decade.
