NANINDIGAN ang Commission on Elections (COMELEC) na tama ang kanilang desisyon para ibasura ang tatlong disqualification petitions laban sa kandidatura ni presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.
No chill si retired Commissioner Rowena Guanzon matapos ibasura ng COMELEC first division ang pinagsamang petisyon laban sa kandidatura ni presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.
Sa twitter, bitter si Guanzon sa pasya ng mga dati niyang kasama na pinayagang makatakbong pangulo ang dating senador.
Nag-ugat ang mga petisyon sa 1995 tax evasion conviction ni Marcos na inihain ng ilang martial law survivors gaya nina Bonifacio Ilagan, Akbayan party-list, at Abubakar Mangelen.
Nakasentro ang petisyon sa pagkabigo ni Marcos na magbayad ng income tax at mag-file ng tax returns habang nasa public office mula 1982 hanggang 1985.
Pero ayon sa nagsulat o ponente ng desisyon na si Commissioner Aimee Ferolino, walang perpetual disqualification in holding public office ang conviction kay Marcos kaugnay sa hindi paghain ng income tax returns sa mga nabanggit na taon.
Ngunit para kay Guanzon, malinaw na convicted si Bongbong sa kaso.
Ang COMELEC naman, nanindigan na tama ang kanilang desisyon na ibasura ang mga petisyon.
‘’The first division reiterated that it gonna clear that the CA did it fact not to impose penalty of imprisonment and pointed out also that the COMELEC does not have the authority to overturn the decision of the CA,’’ ayon kay Dir. James Jimenez.
‘’The decision reiterated that the offense of failure to file an ITR is not currently characterized as one involving as one involving moral torpitude. And therfore that could not be as a grounds to disqualify a candidate,’’ paliwanag ni Jimenez.
Para naman sa partido ni Marcos, pinasikat lamang ng kaso ang kandidatura nito.
‘’Ang tawag ko po dito ay the greatest backfire in the history of Philippine politics sapagkat lalo pong tumaas ang survey rating ng ating kandidato sa PFP si Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr,’’ ayon kay Atty. George Briones.
