A $104 million solar farm on the Canterbury Plains, a lowland area in South Island, New Zealand is set to start operation by the end of 2024.
New Zealand’s electric company Genesis Energy and FRV Australia partnered to develop and build the 93-hectare site.
With about 90,000 solar panels, the farm is expected to generate enough renewable energy to power nearly 13,000 homes.
The 63-megawatt (MW) farm would be the largest in New Zealand once construction is complete.
New Zealand aspires that 50% of its total energy consumption will come from renewable sources by 2035 and will reach net zero carbon emissions targets by 2050.
