IN line with the observation of Rabies Awareness Month, the Davao City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) released a schedule for both castration and anti-rabies vaccination for cats and dogs in different barangays and in its district offices.
Dr. Ma. Corazon Sepulveda, Officer-in-Charge of the CVO, said that the CVO’s main office located in the City Hall Annex offers free castration services every Tuesday and Thursday while their district offices offer free anti-rabies vaccination from.Monday to Friday at 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Personnel from the CVO will be in Tugbok Proper on March 8; in Barangay Hizon on March 11–12; Lizada on March 13; Bangoy on March 14; and Acacia on March 15 to conduct free castration services.
There is also a Rabies Vaccination scheduled in Bayabas, Toril on March 18; and a seminar to be conducted at MAPUA on the same day.
The CVO also scheduled free castration in Barangay 19-B on March 21; a rabies vaccination in Bangcas on March 22; and another castration program in Barangay Sto. Nino on March 25.
On March 27, personnel from the CVO will be in Barangay Baganihan for a free castration program.
Meanwhile, the free anti-rabies vaccination offered by the CVO is scheduled per district.
In Calinan District, CVO personnel will be in Barangay Biao Joaquin on March 7–8; and in Barangay Dominga on March 12–13.
For Marilog District, the free vaccination is scheduled on March 4 in Barangay Buda; March 6 in Sitio Aguila, Barangay Suawan; March 12 in Barangay Salumay; March 13–14 in Barangay Bantol; Barangay 18–19 in Barangay Malamba; March 26 in Barangay Marilog Proper; and on March 28 in Barangay Dalag Lumot.
In Paquibato District, the CVO will be holding a free anti-rabies vaccination in Barangay Sumimao on March 8; Barangay Paquibato Proper on March 18 during the Caravan; Barangay Mapula on March 19–22; and Barangay Fatima on March 25.
For Tugbok District, on March 5 and March 21 in Barangay Bago Oshiro; March 12 in Barangay Biao Guianga; and March 19 in Barangay Manambulan.
In Bunawan District, the CVO scheduled a free anti-rabies vaccination in Purok 9, Barangay Mahayag on March 4; Barangay San Isidro on March 18–20; and Barangay Mudiang on March 26.
In Talomo District, the CVO will be in different puroks in Barangay Bago Aplaya on March 4—8 and March 11; and on March 13–15 and March 18–23 in Barangay Matina Aplaya.
For Toril District, it has scheduled free anti-rabies vaccination on March 18 in Barangay Bayabas, and on March 25 in Barangay Bangkas.
The CVO will also be conducting a free anti-rabies vaccination in Agdao Poblacion District specifically on March 2 in Barangay El Rio Gym; March 11 in Barangay 27-C; and March 12 in Barangay 18-B.
In Buhangin District, the schedule for the free vaccination is on March 8 in Purok 9, Libas Waan; March 13 in Purok 4 and 5, Barangay Waan; and on March 18–22 in Barangay Tigatto.
According to Sepulveda, rabies is 100 percent preventable through mass vaccinations of animals and practicing responsible pet ownership.
“Rabies is 100 percent preventable through two measures: yung tinatawag natin na post-exposure prophylaxis this one is sa human-side, and then yung sa animal side would be the mass vaccination of animal reservoirs, primarily dogs. So yun yung to lessen the risk of human exposure and can ultimately result in rabies vaccination elimination [Rabies is 100 percent preventable through two measures: the post-exposure prophylaxis (for humans) and mass vaccination of animals, primarily dogs. This will lessen the risk of human exposure and can ultimately result in rabies vaccination elimination],” she said.
Other than the free vaccination and castration services, the CVO is also conducting Information Education Campaigns (IECs) on responsible pet ownership, as well as activities to control the population of strays.
