THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has temporarily suspended the importation of poultry products from France.
Under Memorandum Order No. 40, which was recently issued by the agency, the temporary import ban takes effect immediately following reports of a bird flu outbreak in the said European country.
This measure aims to protect the local poultry population and consumers in the country from the effects of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
However, all poultry products from France that are currently in transit to the Philippines will be allowed entry as long as they were processed or produced before July 25 or on that same date.
On the other hand, products processed or produced after July 25 will not be allowed to enter the country.
These items will be confiscated by veterinary quarantine officers to prevent them from entering the market.
