DUMATING na sa bansa ang 2 sa 6 na yunit ng Turkish-made T129 “ATAK” attack helicopters na binili ng Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Ayon kay Air Force spokesperson Lt.Col. Maynard Mariano, lumapag ang Airbus mula Turkey lulan ng dalawang attack helicopter sa Clark Air Base, Pampanga kaninang madaling araw ng Miyerkules, Marso 9.
“The PAF welcomes the arrival of two units of T129 ‘ATAK’ helicopters onboard the (Airbus) A-400M from Turkey at 30 minutes past midnight 09 March 2022 at Clark Air Base, Mabalacat City, Pampanga,” wika ni Mariano.
Aniya, sasailalim ang nasabing mga attack helicopter sa technical inspection at flight tests bago tanggapin para sa serbisyo ng PAF.
“It will undergo inspection, it will undergo acceptance (test), test flights before the acceptance ceremonies can be done and it will go through a lot of orientation in (the) country, together with the pilots and the crew,” ani Mariano.
Inaasahan din na mailagay sa komisyon ang dalawang helikopter sa loob ng isa o dalawang buwan.
Dagdag pa ni Mariano, ang mga nasabing attack helicopters ay inaasahang mapaigi ang “surface strike system” ng PAF.
Ang 15th Strike Wing ng PAF ang siyang mag-ooperate sa T-129 helicopters na gagamitin bilang Close Air Support sa mga ground troops at armed surveillance at reconnaissance.
Ang anim na T129s ay binili ng PAF mula sa Turkish Aerospace Industries sa ilalim ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Modernization Plan – Horizon 2.
“The T129 is a dedicated attack helicopter, much like the (Bell) AH-1S Cobra. This new system will complement the several surface strike systems of the Air Force and will be another game-changer in support to the numerous missions of tha AFP,” dagdag ni Mariano.
Nasa kabuuang USD269,388,862 o P12.9 bilyong halaga ang 6 na attack helicopter mula sa TAI Aerospace Industries sa pamamagitan ng government-to-government na pagbili sa ilalim ng Republic Act 9184 o ng Government Procurement Reform Act.
