Davao City athletes overall champion at BIMP EAGA + NT games

ATHLETES and coaches from Davao City were overall winners during the Brunei Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Northern Territory (NT) Friendship Games.

The Davao City contingents won 82 medals out of 102 medals bagged by the winning Philippine A representation at the 2024 BIMP EAGA +NT Territory Games, which took place from November 29, 2024 to December 6, 2024 in Puerto Princessa City, Palawan.

Davao City Sports Division Head Michael Denton Aportadera said that this is the first time that the Philippine A, Davao City, and the Davao Region bagged the title of overall champion since the BIMP-EAGA games started in 1996.

The 110 athletes and coaches from Davao brought home over-all 28 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals during the prestigious international games.

Based on the official medal tally, for athletics, Davao City bagged 21 medals; for archery, five medals; badminton, two medals; sepak takraw, three medals; E-sports, one medal; Karatedo, three medals; swimming, 42 medals; and Pencak Silat, five medals.

The BIMP EAGA +NT is a premier international sports event aimed at fostering greater cultural exchange among Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the Northern Territory of Australia.

The 20th Davao City Council on Tuesday also feted 110 athletes and coaches who participated in the games for their outstanding achievement and contributions that significantly impacted and brought honor to the city of Davao.
