Davao City eyes facility for drug dependent’s aftercare

TO support the recovery of drug dependents, the City Government of Davao is now eyeing a new aftercare and outpatient facility for drug dependents.

Dr. Michelle Maville Schlosser, the Officer-In-Charge and the Manager of the Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents (DCTRCDD), said the aftercare and outpatient program will provide complete care for people with substance use disorder.

“Hopefully, we will be able to construct our own building for aftercare and outpatient programs for our recovering persons with substance use disorders,” she said in an interview with the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio.

She said the facility will be used to monitor the drug dependents’ progress following their intensive treatment at the rehabilitation facility.

She added that the facility also aims to keep drug addicts from relapsing.

“One of our mayor’s plans is for us to have our own aftercare and outpatient program,” she said.

The DCTRCDD, which is situated in Bago Oshiro, Tugbok District, will house the facility.

Schlosser said the DCTRCDD handled a total of 353 people in 2024.

The center offers treatment programs that include counselling therapy, spiritual development, psychiatric services, and personal growth.

“Our goal is that if they complete the rehabilitation in our facility, they will be reintegrated into our society productively as well as useful to the community in bringing peace and development,” she said.

The DCTRCDD was established on October 29, 2003, during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte as city mayor. CIO
