THE Department of Education (DepEd) is intensifying its preparations for the phased implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum in over 40,000 schools throughout this year.
At the National Summit of pilot implementers of the MATATAG Curriculum, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte announced that training for division instructional leaders would commence in the coming weeks.
She emphasized that the training will continue for regional and division trainers until it reaches every teacher in each school teaching Kinder, Grades 1, 4, and 7 in the upcoming school year.
“We expect school-based trainings for teachers in the form of collaborative expertise sessions through the Learning Action Cells. We expect these sessions to happen in a supportive and respectful environment where teachers can ask questions or share insights, thereby strengthening their knowledge of curriculum content and teaching strategies,” said Vice President Sara Duterte, Republic of the Philippines.
Vice President Duterte said that DepEd’s effort to provide training for teachers reflects their strong commitment to give them the necessary support for the success of the K-10 Curriculum.
“By fostering a deep understanding of the MATATAG Curriculum in all levels of our education system, we can maximize its impact and ultimately enhance the experience of our learners,” she added.
She also thanked the 35 schools in seven regions across the Philippines— these regions were the first to participate in the pilot implementation of the K-10 Curriculum.
More than 380 teachers and over 8,200 students took part in the pilot implementation.
The said curriculum is DepEd’s initiative to ensure that the teaching process is not rushed.
It focuses on fundamental skills in literacy, numeracy, and socio-emotional skills in the early grades, and strengthens good manners and right conduct, values education, peace education, and skills relevant to the 21st Century.
