ANG patuloy na pagbagsak ng halaga ng yen ay nakakaapekto sa pagkonsumo sa Japan.
Dahil umano bumababa ang halaga ng yen mas maraming Japanese ang nahihirapang maiahon ngayon ang pang-araw araw na pamumuhay.
Ayon sa currency market, ang Japanese yen ay bumagsak sa 160 sa bawat U.S. dollar.
Ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon mula April 1990 na ang U.S. dollar ay nai-trade ng higit sa isandaan at animnapung yen.
Ang depreciation na ito ay nakakaapekto naman sa halaga ng pagkain at bilihin sa Japan.
“At one point the exchange rate dropped below 160 yen to the dollar, which is a bit too much. I’m afraid the prices of daily necessities will go up further. I have no idea what to do, I feel very uneasy, and I might no longer accord to live cozily. The price of lunch has gone up a lot, so I can’t choose at will as I used to,” the resident said.
Dahil umano sa pagbaba ng halaga ng yen at pagtaas ng presyo ng bilihin, posibleng mas umasa na ang mga residente sa imported goods.
“I was fond of buying clothes of overseas brands, but their prices have gone up and I don’t feel it pays to buy them anymore. I also preferred to buy foreign food, but the prices have climbed up so much that it’s a bit of a struggle to buy it,” she said.
“I’m lucky that my job hasn’t been affected too much and my income hasn’t decreased. But if [the yen] continues to depreciate like this without any countermeasures, it could become critical,” he said.
