THE Design Center was conferred with the #IntellectualProperty (IP) Citation as Top Filer by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines at the 2024 Gawad Yamang Isip Awards.
This recognition highlights the Center’s continued success in supporting innovation, with over 50 projects and clients assisted in 2023. Notably, the Design Center has consistently ranked as a Top Industrial Design Filer since 2017.
Aligned with the awards theme “#IPandSDGs: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity,” an exhibition on Geographical Indication (GI) was displayed by the Design Center. GI, as a special form of IP, ensures products from specific regions carry their distinctive qualities and cultural heritage. This help preserve and promote traditional craftsmanship, local traditions, and sustainable practices.
Additionally, an exhibition on the applications of Pinyapel and Bakong was mounted. These products are the next generation material alternatives made from local raw materials and agricultural wastes.
In recognition of their work towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Design Center’s institutional partners for both Pinyapel and Bakong initiatives received the most prestigious award on innovation, creativity, and IP—the Gawad Yamang Isip. These are D&L Industries (Invention Category); Stanley Ruiz (Industrial Design Category); and Rags2Riches (Trademark Category).
