DICT assures no disruption on internet service amidst lockdown

THE telecommunication companies continue on providing internet to the public amidst Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).


This, was assured by the Department of Information and Communications Technology  (DICT) in a Laging Handa Public Briefing based on the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte through DICT Secretary Gregorio Honasan II.


According to DICT Deputy Spokesperson Adrian Echaus, the telecommunications personnels such as maintenance , sales and other workforce continue doing their jobs who were included in the exemptions under ECQ.


In line with this, the DICT has issued directives on National Telecommunications Commission or NTC to monitor the telcos and Internet Service Provider (ISP) in order to ensure the reliable and continuous internet service.


The DICT also ordered the telcos and all ISP to submit their detailed business continuity plans and actions to address the need of the information and communications technology.


Meanwhile, the DITC has called on the Philippine National Police or checkpoint personnels, Local Government Units (LGUs) and the homeowners’ associations to allow the personnels of telcos to pass through the checkpoints and enter the subdivisions after the said department received reports of restraint in doing their tasks.


Moreover, DICT Director Aida Yuvienco stressed that the agency has exerted much effort to be able to provide free WIFI to the public especially for those who are in the quarantine facilities wherein she emphasized the importance for the patients to be allowed to communicate with their families.

On the other hand, the task force COVID Kontra Peke was created to hamper the spread of fake news.


The task force is composed of various government agencies like DICT, PNP, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Department of Justice (DOJ), and Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).
