DICT statement on stakeholders meeting on SIM Registration Act implementation

THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and its attached agencies met today with officials from the country’s three public telecommunication entities (PTEs) to discuss the latest status and concerns on the implementation of the SIM Registration Act.

During the meeting, the DICT and PTEs exchanged views on how to resolve some issues faced by registrants, such as barriers in obtaining government-issued IDs and documents and improvements in the SIM registration process. To reiterate, only one of the 17 accepted government-issued IDs and documents is needed to proceed with the registration.

The possibility of extending the SIM registration period was also discussed during the meeting. We advise everyone to await the official announcement of the Department on the matter.

The Department would like to thank its partners in the public and private sector who, through this meeting, reaffirmed their support for the government’s drive to weed out criminality perpetrated through SIM use. The increasing number of registrants in the past few days is a clear indication that Filipinos share the desire to eradicate online and text scams once and for all.

With the 26 April 2023 deadline fast approaching, Filipinos are encouraged to register their SIMs and unite towards a single goal of achieving a safe and secure digital nation.
