Dignitaries from Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea hold talks with China’s top diplomat

FOREIGN dignitaries including Thailand’s former foreign minister flew to China for a diplomatic visit.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed former Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai, former Myanmar President U Thein Sein, and former Republic of Korea (ROK) Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan.

The dignitaries arrived in Beijing to attend a conference commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

The said principles created seven decades ago serve as a backbone of China’s foreign policy.

These include – mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

Wang called the former president of Myanmar a friend of the Chinese people.

The three dignitaries warmly welcomed China’s proposal to deepen ties with their respective countries.

Wang said the five principles that shaped China’s foreign policy remain relevant despite being created 70 years ago.
