TURKISH President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that from now on, his doors are closed to US Ambassador to Turkiye, Jeffry Flake, for meeting his political rival in the May presidential election.
On March 29, Flake met with Erdogan’s rival, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, leader of the Republican People’s Party.
The meeting was said to be part of continuing conversations with Turkish political parties on issues of mutual interest between our two countries.
However, President Erdogan, who said that, blasted this visit,
“We need to teach America a lesson in these elections,” said Pres. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,Türkiye.
Erdogan made the remarks in a follow-up meeting with a group of officials from the Grey Wolves Movement, the Turkish President focused on the May 14 election and the US envoy has alleged abuse of his diplomatic authority.
He went on aid and said,
“Our doors are closed for him Flake, he can no longer come in. Why? He needs to know his place. Shame on you, think with your head. You are an ambassador. Your interlocutor here is the president,” added by Pres. Erdoğan.
The Turkish President’s remarks came less than 6 weeks before the elections will take place on May 14.
In late March, Erdoğan accused the West of trying to drag his country into a conflict with Russia and vowed that he will never allow such a thing to happen.
He also reiterated Turkiye’s role as a potential mediator and their eagerness to help settle the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
