THE Department of Science and Technology-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), in partnership with the DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology and Media and Communication Department of the Centro Escolar University, held a special lecture on Science Risk and Communication for Geologic Disaster Awareness and Preparedness with 54 Communication and Political Science students from Manila and Malolos campuses.
Fatima Moncada, science research specialist II from the DOST-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, put emphasis on the significance of science and risk communication in advocating awareness and preparedness for various geologic hazards.
She pointed out the importance of risk and science communication, as well as understanding scenario-based disaster risk reduction.
Moncada also added that as future communicators, they should determine earthquake and volcanic risk information that is important for public awareness and preparedness and evaluate the accuracy of risk messages.
