DOTr and PCG hold Senior Leader’s Meeting to enhance Maritime Security

TO further strengthen the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and serve the public to safety and security in our maritime sovereignty, the Department of Transportation – Philippines (DOTr) and PCG conducted a Senior Leader’s Meeting, today, 15 August 2024.

“I believe in the capability of the Philippine Coast Guard. I believe in your determination and resolve to fulfill your mandate– not just resolving issues at the West Philippine Sea but also at protecting our waters and the maritime environment,” Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista said.

The meeting, led by Transport Secretary Bautista together with DOTr Undersecretary for Maritime Elmer Sarmiento, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Maritime Julius Yano, and PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan with other PCG officials, discussed the status of different PCG plans including maritime security challenges, efforts in the WPS and other concerns.

CG Admiral Gavan also highlighted the PCG modernization master plan status, the status of PCG assets and additional equipments, efforts during oil spills and others.

“What we should be prioritizing is the modernization of your air and sea assets. DOTr’s support to your modernization plan manifests our solidarity to your noble cause of protecting our seas,” Sec. Bautista said.
