Dozens dead from India’s longest heatwave

INDIA is facing its longest heatwave in record with eight more people dead in recent days.

Eight deaths were reported within a 72-hour period.

At least 60 people died nationwide between March and May due to heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures soared between 45 to 50 degrees Celsius in several cities.

The severe heat also resulted in water shortages in several parts of the country.

It was the longest heatwave the country has ever experienced, with residents facing the brunt of extreme heat for 24 consecutive days, according to the India Meteorological Department.
