SEEN to expand its healthcare infrastructure with 2,200 bed capacity increase, the Department of Public Works and Highways – National Capital Region officially started the construction of the 16-storey Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Adult and Specialty Center, in its groundbreaking ceremony held at Taft Avenue, Manila City on June 25, 2025.
This soon-to-rise building will serve as the next stand-alone hospital after Felicidad Sy Hall, featuring its own pediatric ER, OR complex, outpatient clinics; and dedicated facilities for Pediatrics and Medicine; including Pay and Charity Nursing Units, a new dietary department, canteen, and upgraded dining halls. It will also house a library, multiple lecture halls, breakrooms, and a 300-seat convention center for capacity building.
First Lady Marie Louise C. Araneta-Marcos spearheaded the event with DOH Secretary Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH-NCR Assistant Regional Director Montrexis T. Tamayo, University of the Philippines (UP) President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez, UP Manila Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tee, former Manila City Mayor Dra. Maria Sheilah H. Lacuna-Pangan, and PGH Director Dr. Gerardo D. Legaspi.
Under the ‘Build Better More’ program of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., and supervision of Sec. Bonoan, the project will enhance the delivery of medical services through the integration of modernized health facilities accessible to all.
