DUBAI-based Emirates announced its decision to cancel flights to and from German airports in Hamburg and Düsseldorf on April 20 and 21 as trade union strikes start affecting day-to-day operations.
Emirates made the decision after the security staff announced more planned strikes in Hamburg and Düsseldorf, mainly affecting a total of seven flights scheduled during the said period.
Customers whose trips are affected by the latest cancellations are advised to reach out to their travel agencies or the airline’s office for rebooking options.
The nationwide labor strike in Germany started in March, organized by Verdi and EVG, two major transport unions in the West European country.
The transport unions are asking for a wage increase and bonuses for their members to cope with the rising food and energy costs.
Tens of thousands of German rail workers participated in the massive rail strike since last month, and so far, negotiations between the transport unions and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies have not yet reached any breakthrough.
The transport unions hope to come up with a negotiable offer on April 27th and 28th in order to avoid further strikes and for the conflict to end before the Pentecost next month.
Last month, Emirates and Etihad Airways – the two flag carriers representing UAE – also canceled more than a dozen flights between Dubai and Germany as planned industrial action by rail workers affected daily services.
This is the third time flights between the UAE and Germany flights have been canceled due to industrial action in German airports.
