ELON Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, discussed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) during the UK’s inaugural AI Safety Summit.
He also sat down with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and dived into the dangers as well as opportunities of AI.
While expressing hope for its positive impact, Musk cautioned about the risks associated with AI, calling it one of ‘the most disruptive forces in history’
Musk envisions a future where AI could make jobs unnecessary, with AI companionship becoming integral to human life. He commended global efforts to address AI safety issues.
But Prime Minister Sunak expressed his discomfort regarding this idea.
The UK Prime Minister also asked Musk what governments should be doing to manage and mitigate the risks of AI.
Musk has been pushing for the importance of global alignment on AI safety.
The European Union, and 28 countries— including the Philippines, signed the Bletchley Declaration at the AI Safety Summit, which took place on November 1 and 2.
The Bletchley Declaration acknowledges the need for international cooperation towards accountability, and transparency in AI development and mitigating risks posed by AI.
The said countries all agreed to work together to create a united approach to oversight in efforts to deploy AI technology in what they call a ‘human-centric, trustworthy, and responsible way’.
Meanwhile, Musk’s growing international influence, evident in meetings with leaders like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and French President Emmanuel Macron, contrasts with controversy over providing Starlink in conflict zones.
Future AI safety summits are planned in Korea and France in 2024.
